Sediment runoff is a major concern for any stormwater management system, and especially those in desert environments where there is less vegetation to anchor the soil. Erosion washes sediment off slopes into the the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) where it can cause blockages and transport other pollutants into the MS4. Paradise Valley’s erosion control-measures help keep sediment and other pollutants out of the MS4.
Construction Site Runoff Control comprises MCM 4 of the Town’s Stormwater Management Plan (SWMP). To comply with the SWMP, Construction General Permit, and Town of Paradise Valley ordinances, all construction projects that disturb land are required to submit a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) to the Town for review. SWPPPs outline the Best Management Practices (BMPs) construction operators will use to prevent erosion and sedimentation runoff in various stages of the project. Information for preparing a SWPPP can be found at the AZDEQ website (PDF).
